About Babfree

Locally operated communities connected by shared identity, trusted membership, and accountable participation.

Babfree is a network of independently operated communities. Each community holds its own data, sets its own rules, and chooses which other communities it trusts. People carry a stable identity across the places they belong.

Local ownership, connected communities

The product brings together discussions, local news, announcements and events. Content can be public, available to local members, or shared with members of explicitly trusted communities. In-person invitations and accountable sponsorship establish membership. Communities can accept one another’s enforcement decisions, with provenance, expiration and appeals.

Local businesses support the local operators through clearly labeled placements. There are no bot members, manufactured engagement, direct messages or private messaging subgroups.

The technical direction

The intended server runs directly on Cloudflare Workers and independently on a Raspberry Pi. The current plan is a small portable TypeScript application built on established libraries, with its own community and trust model. The first milestone is proving private access and revocation between two independent servers.

Status
Research and planning
Current focus
Community ownership, private access, federation, and a portable Workers/Pi architecture.
Next update
Prove shared identity, trusted membership, private attachments, and revocation across two independent servers.

The research favors a small TypeScript application built on maintained libraries, using existing social platforms as references. No working prototype, security validation, or Raspberry Pi benchmark is claimed yet.
